Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

After a traumatic event you may experience some common symptoms of PTSD such as disturbing memories, nightmares, flashbacks and avoidance of people, places and activites that remind you of the  event.  You may feel jumpy and easily startled, feel that you're constantly on guard.  It's also common to experience feelings of guilt or shame and self-blame after a traumatic event. Common emotional responses can be anxiey, feelings of helplessness, fear and sadness.  Feeling numb and unable to experience love or joy is also common.  You may feel hopeless about the future and detached and withdrawn from other people.  PTSD can be caused by events in which your life and safety were at risk, or you were witness to such events, but it can also can be caused by abusive relationships from childhood, or abusive relationships with intimate partners.  I specialize in a technique called EMDR which quickly begins to lessen symptoms of PTSD and allows you to access your natural healing abilities to help you recover from PTSD.  The goal is to empower you to feel, think and behave in healthier ways.
